Central Railway wins 2014-15 Commercial and Signal & Telecommunications Shield

Central Railway zone has been conferred with Commercial and Signal & Telecommunications Shield of Indian Railways for the year 2014-15 for its outstanding performance among the 17 railway zone operating in the country.

The zone recorded a 0.71 per cent increase in originating passengers, against the decline of 2.13 per cent on Indian Railway.

Central Railway was the only railway zone in addition to South West Railway which has recorded an increase in originating passengers during 2014-15 fiscal year.

Central Railway originating suburban passengers the increase was 0.73 per cent, as compared to 0.21 per cent increase recorded by Western Railway zone.

During 2014-15, Central Railway carried 1685.34 million passengers, registering 20 million increases, against 1664 million passengers a year earlier.

However, during the period, Western Railway carried 1441.58 million passengers, as compared to 1431.14 million passengers during 2013-14 fiscal year.

In Non suburban (UTS and reserved), CR recorded an increase of 0.56 per cent, whereas there was an overall drop of 3.56 per cent on other zones of Indian Railways.

Central Railway has carried 1716 million passengers in the last financial year as against 1705 million passengers in 2013-14.

Central Railway has earned $765 million (Rs 4780 crores) from originating passengers, $841 million (Rs 5255 crores) from goods, $74 million (Rs 465 crores) from other coaching earnings and $61 million (Rs 382 crores) from sundry earnings.

Central Railway’s total earning was $1.74 billion (Rs 10,882 crores), as against $1.56 billion (Rs 9,778 Crores) achieved during the last year which was 11.00 per cent more than the last year.

The zone also achieved earnings of $16 million (Rs 100 crores) in ticket checking for the maximum cases for without ticket category.

In Commercial Publicity, Central Railway achieved $8.32 million (Rs 52 crores). There was a decline of 8 per cent in public complaints and 9% in catering complaints in the trains originating from Central Railway.

During the period, Central Railway installed 288 automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs) of Forbes Technology in Mumbai of the total 651 ATVMs installed in Mumbai division.

Six new Jansadharan Ticket Booking Sevaks (JTBS) was commissioned in Mumbai of the total 233 installed in Mumbai division.

Rajiv Dutt Sharma, Chief Commercial Manager and K. S. Krishnakumar, Chief Signal & Telecom Engineer, Central Railway received respective efficiency shields at 60th National Level Railway Week Award Function – 2015 held at Guwahati on April 13, 2015.

A K Mittal, Chairman, Railway Board, Ajay Kumar Shukla, Member Traffic and other Board Members were also present on the occasion.
